Speech to Text Now Generates SRT and VTT Subtitle Files

Speech-to-text transcription now automatically produces timed SRT and VTT subtitle files alongside your text transcript.

Automatic subtitle generation

When you transcribe an audio or video file with the Speech to Text tool, Narakeet now automatically generates timed subtitle files in two popular formats:

  • SRT (SubRip): The most widely supported subtitle format, compatible with YouTube, Vimeo, and most video editors
  • VTT (WebVTT): The web-native subtitle format, ideal for HTML5 video players and web-based platforms

The subtitles include accurate timestamps, so they stay synchronized with your original audio.

How it works

The process is the same as before - upload your audio or video file, select the language, and start the transcription. When your transcription is ready, you’ll see download buttons for all three formats:

  • TXT: Plain text transcript
  • SRT: Timed subtitle file in SubRip format
  • VTT: Timed subtitle file in WebVTT format

No extra steps needed. The subtitle files are generated automatically from the transcription timing data.

Use cases

Timed subtitle files open up many workflows:

  • YouTube and social media: Upload SRT or VTT files directly to YouTube, Facebook, or LinkedIn for accurate captions on your videos
  • Video editing: Import subtitle files into video editors like Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro
  • Accessibility: Add captions to existing videos to make them accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers
  • Translation workflows: Use the timed subtitle file as a starting point for translating captions into other languages

Try it now

The subtitle generation is available to all users, free during the beta period. Give it a try with your next transcription.
